The purpose of the Jan Harp Domene Diversity and Inclusion Award contest is to recognize PTAs that are dedicated to the needs of all families represented in their schools. The contest acknowledges PTAs that develop practices that are inclusive and equal for all families and that result in positive change.
The Phoebe Apperson Hearst Awards for innovation in family engagement, named after National PTA co-founder Phoebe Apperson Hearst, recognize and celebrate achievement in building effective family-school partnerships. The awards are presented to PTAs that have earned the National PTA School of Excellence designation and demonstrated outstanding success engaging families in student success and school improvements. The awards are the highest honor National PTA presents to effective family engagement.
Outstanding Student Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize and honor an outstanding student from Nebraska. This award focuses on the accomplishments of the student and not necessarily on his or her service to PTA. Age is not a factor. Any student, Kindergarten through 12th grade, may qualify. Any PTA member, unit, council, or region may submit nominations. The nominee must attend a school that has a PTA unit. The honoree will be asked to attend the Nebraska PTA State Convention to receive this award.
One recipient will be chosen from the applicants. The winner will receive a letter from the president and a plaque. Nominations must be postmarked by March 15.
Outstanding Educator
The purpose of this award is to honor someone who has made an outstanding contribution in the field of education for the benefit of children and youth. The term “educator” applies to teachers, principals, Para-educators, administrators, or superintendents. Any PTA member, unit, council, or region may submit nominations. The nominee must be a member of a local PTA unit and, if a teacher or principal must be from a school that is affiliated with a PTA unit. The honoree will be asked to attend the Nebraska PTA State Convention to receive this award.
One recipient will be chosen from the applicants. The winner will receive a letter from the president and a plaque. Nominations must be postmarked by March 15.
